mating yards in central and west central Marin

The effort to create a source of locally adapted stock could not be possible without the support of the beekeepers in Marin County who purchase our nuc colonies and the beekeepers who have shared their untreated survivor stock with us.  Thank you also to Melanie Kirby & Mark Spitzig of Zia Queen Bees for assisting with grafting for our maiden year in 2011, and the landowners in West Marin – including the Solstice Grove community –  who have allowed us to set up mating yards

nucleus colonies

A nucleus colony, or nuc, is essentially a smaller hive, consisting of bees in all stages of development, as well as food, a laying queen, and enough workers to cover from three to five combs
